From the Cape Winelands to Niagara Wine Country ~ a taste of South Africa at The Farmhouse Manor.

Looking for a truly unique dining experience in Niagara? At The Farmhouse Manor Bed & Breakfast in Port Dalhousie, we invite guests to experience a taste of South Africa without leaving the Niagara region.
Our Authentic South African Dinner Experience is a celebration of food, culture, wine and hospitality — inspired by Olga's South African heritage and served in the intimate and welcoming surroundings of our historic 1914 farmhouse.
This is not simply dinner. It is an opportunity to slow down, gather around the table and discover the distinctive flavours and traditions of South Africa.
A Taste of South Africa in Niagara
South African cuisine reflects the country's fascinating cultural history, bringing together influences from Indigenous African traditions, Dutch and European settlers, Cape Malay cooking and Indian flavours.
The result is a wonderfully diverse cuisine filled with aromatic spices, comforting dishes, vibrant flavours and generous hospitality.
At The Farmhouse Manor, our South African dinners introduce guests to these much-loved flavours through a carefully prepared, home-style menu.
One of our signature dishes is traditional South African bobotie — a comforting baked dish of seasoned ground beef infused with aromatic curry spices and topped with a delicate savoury egg custard. Traditionally served with fruit chutney and fragrant rice, bobotie is one of South Africa's best-known comfort foods and a wonderful introduction to the country's culinary heritage.
The dinner is served with a fresh garden green salad, followed by a freshly baked dessert served with creamy vanilla ice cream.
To finish the evening, guests are invited to savour a little taste of South Africa with Amarula Cream Liqueur, a smooth and indulgent South African favourite made from the exotic marula fruit.
South African Wine at the Table
No South African dinner would be complete without wine — and for Olga, wine is a particularly personal part of the experience.
Born in the Cape Winelands of South Africa, Olga grew up surrounded by vineyards and the rich wine culture of the region. Her father was a certified wine professional, and through him she developed a lifelong appreciation and passion for the South African wine industry.
The dinner is thoughtfully paired with premium, carefully selected South African wines that Olga has personally sought out and identified as being available here in Canada. The selection highlights the incredible diversity and quality of South African wine, with some featured wines coming from Paarl and Stellenbosch, close to Olga's hometown and the places where her love of wine began.
Each wine is selected to complement the flavours of the evening and enhance the dining experience, giving guests the opportunity to discover some of South Africa's exceptional wines while learning about their connection to the country's beautiful wine regions.
And being situated in the heart of Niagara wine country makes the experience even more special. Guests can spend the day exploring local vineyards and wineries before returning to The Farmhouse Manor for an evening that brings together two great wine regions — Niagara and South Africa.
More Than a Meal
One of the things that makes dining at The Farmhouse Manor special is the setting.
Our historic farmhouse provides an intimate atmosphere where guests can enjoy a relaxed meal around the table rather than the bustle of a traditional restaurant.
We believe food is about more than what is on the plate. It is about connection, conversation and sharing stories.
Our South African dinner experiences are designed to feel personal and welcoming ~ much like being invited into someone's home for a special meal.
Guests may hear stories about South Africa, discover the traditions behind the dishes and learn more about the country's food and wine culture.
Experience South African Hospitality
Hospitality is at the heart of South African culture, and it is something we love bringing to The Farmhouse Manor.
From the moment guests arrive, we want them to feel welcomed, relaxed and at home.
Whether you are familiar with South African cuisine or have never tried it before, our dinner experience offers something a little different from the typical Niagara dining experience.
It is perfect for couples looking for a memorable evening, friends gathering for a special occasion, food lovers wanting to try something new, or visitors staying at the Manor who would like to experience an authentic taste of their host's heritage.
From South Africa to Port Dalhousie
There is something rather wonderful about bringing a piece of South Africa to Niagara.
The Farmhouse Manor sits in beautiful Port Dalhousie, St. Catharines, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Niagara region and within easy reach of some of Ontario's best-known wineries.
Our South African dinners bring these two worlds together ~ the warmth and flavours of South Africa with the charm, history and wine culture of Niagara.
After a day exploring local wineries, enjoying the lake or discovering the Niagara countryside, guests can return to the Manor and settle in for an evening filled with good food, South African wine and warm hospitality.
